We all use our phones everyday. But how many of us can say we have a healthy relationship with technology? Here are a few tips on how you can use technology mindfully.
Stay away from your phone when you are with friends and family.
Yes, we all whip out our phones when we get “bored”, but 1. It is rude, and 2. You are not really paying attention to what is really happening around you. It is really important to show that you are being present around people. Leave it in a bag or somewhere out of your sight. That way, you won’t feel compelled to always pick it up.
Get a phone locking app
One really good one is Forest: stay focused. You can set an amount of time to not go on your phone for. During that time, a tree grows. You earn coins and unlock different trees that you can set during the timer. However if you leave the app, the tree dies and you do not earn anything in the end. This way, you can learn a new habit and get rewards!
Move social media from your home screen
Or, you can even put them into folders. This way when you open your phone, it is not the first thing you see so you don’t feel to always go onto it.
No phones in the bedroom
Bringing your phone to the room before you go to bed is really not good, and impacts your ability to fall asleep, due to the blue light coming from the screen. Besides, instead of being on your phone, you can get your full hours of sleep (so you don’t feel tired during the day).
So as you can see, there are ways of having healthy habits with technology. Like almost everything, there should be balance. And when you learn to do this, it will positively impact your life
