Today's latest craze is sugar free foods. What people aren’t realizing is that just because the label says “sugar free” does not make the product at all healthier. If the sugar is taken out of the food it has to be replaced with something like an artificial sweetener. It is rare that a product contains absolutely zero grams of sugar therefore most of the “sugar free” and “diet” labelled products are lying.

Substituting your sugar for an artificial sweetener is in no way a healthy choice and you might as well eat the sugar. No matter which type you choose, all faux sweeteners are hundreds of times sweeter than sugar. Despite claims that the companies have made, about they’re sugar coming from a natural plant or source, all have undergone some type of chemical process before they reach your lips.

Artificial sweeteners are now in products everywhere from cookies to juice and sodas. Companies often use artificial sweeteners to cut down on calorie count, which is also something to attract people. So not only do you have to watch for sweeteners in sugar free foods but also in everyday foods. Just because something might not be labelled “sugar free”, doesn’t mean it won’t contain some type of artificial sugar.

The bottom line is, although too much sugar is bad for you, it is not such a bad idea to choose it over artificial sweeteners. At the end of the day neither is really healthy for you but if you cut down the amount of sugar you are eating you won’t need to worry. Sugar s unavoidable whether it’s natural or in an artificial sweetener but before choosing between the two just remember the chemical process fake sugars go through before entering your favorite foods.
