News broke on friday May 19th that actor Tom Hardy would star in Sony’s Upcoming ‘Venom’ spinoff Movie. ‘Venom’ is based on the fan favourite ‘Spider-Man’ villain of the same name, and is said to be aiming for an R rating with a darker take on the character. Sony is also currently in final negotiations with director Ruben Fleischer, best known for directing Zombieland
to helm the film. The film is set to release Oct. 5, 2018.
Although fans are very excited to see a dark take on this character with such a talented actor portraying him, some fans are a little nervous. Apparently the film will not feature Spider-Man and will give Venom an anti-hero role, rather than his traditional villain role. It is also being said that the film will not be connected to Marvel Studios/Disney’s new ‘Spider-Man’ films. Many fans would rather see the character of Venom in a Spider-Man film, and feel that a solo film for the character is not necessary.
The character’s big screen debut was in 2007’s ‘Spider-Man 3’ and the portrayal was met with mostly negative reviews. Hopefully Tom hardy can do the character justice and please the fans.
